Friday 13th June saw the opening of a Bim store in the town centre. The company which has over 2000 stores across Turkey offers a "no frills" approach to selling basic food and household items.
Their website address is www.bim.com.tr there is an English language option.
Only last year we saw the opening of Tansas and Dia supermarkets, clearly the town is growing.

Most of the units are now let and include a mini market, bedding shop, internet cafe, pet shop, clothes shop, patisserie, mobile phone shop, electric shop, massage salon, gift shops and of course an emlak.
There is also a Street cafe which sells coffee for 1YTL.
Water Shortages in Akbuk Again
Now that the summer season is upon us again water is being rationed with some sites being hit worse than others. One of the worst affected so far has been Gökdeniz Sitesi who recently were without water for 5 days, a delegation of about 25 residents went to petition the Mayor Mr Abdullah Şam who was sympathetic to their plight but warned the water rationing, which is affecting large parts of Turkey, is likely to persist for at least another two months.
Editors 2 pence worth:-
5 days without water is way too long I feel for those residents, I believe Gökdeniz Sitesi’s problem was compounded by a broken mains pipe but I think something should have been done to help the affected area. I am fortunate to live lower down so we are not so badly affected, on our Sitesi we have water from about 10pm to 10am at the moment which enables our tanks to refill and I ensure all my plumbing is working correctly which can be a constant chore here as water pressure goes up, down, on, off, it plays havoc with your ball cocks.
Akbuk is no longer a quiet little fishing village but a rapidly expanding town, I see new villas and apartments being built all around, what I don’t see on many new builds especially apartments is water storage or solar panels & tanks, now I agree these things aren’t the most attractive of items to stick on your roof but those of us who have been here for several years know the score and we adapt. When the Turkish property owners come for their annual vacations in the thousands the demand for water is suddenly more than the system can deliver and if anyone thinks it is going to get better soon then consider this, the whole of Turkey is short of water, rainfall is less and less, summers are hotter and more properties means more demand. Brit’s and other foreigners who come here need to understand this is not an island where it rains every other day, the taps will go dry in the summer and the electric will go off sometimes. If you want a place in the sun there is a price to be paid, do you want your luxury private pools or to be able to have a shower & flush your toilet?
It is easy to get a pool but you need a little help from nature to fill it.
