Tree Planting in Akbuk

School children and local residents carried out a mass tree planting in Akbuk this week (20-26 Oct) in a bid to add more greenery to the town.

In attendance were Akbuk Mayor Ibrahim Şam and other local head officials.

It makes a change to see trees being planted rather than cut down to make way for more building sites.
Wind Farm Project

The Akbuk wind farm project is now well under way. The project involves the construction of 15 wind turbines which when completed will be connected to the national grid.

The turbines in the project are Suzlon S88 2.1 MW, they are 405 feet from the bottom of the base to the top of the tip at it's apex. The blades are 135 feet long and turn at 16 rpm at that rate the tips will be going over 200 mph.

Each turbine has the capacity to deliver 2100 KW. An estimated 105 GWh per year will be produced by the project.

Wind Turbine Name : S88/2100
Manufacturer : Suzlon, India
Nominal Power : 2100 kW
Rotor Diameter : 88 m
Min Hub Height : 80 m
Max Hub Height : 100 m

The actual location of this site is miles from Akbuk town but as locals well know it can be clearly seen in the distance. If you are wondering why they are painted white when sky blue would have made them almost invisible, apparently it is to make them more visible to low flying aircraft at night.

September in Akbuk

Well its September now and the Turkish holiday makers have gone home, back to work and school, the beaches are virtually empty, traffic on the roads is very light, shops are easy to wander around and the water is on 24/7 with enough pressure to blast your plants out of the ground if you’re not careful with the hose.

Its nice to have the visitors in the summer, it brings the town to life, but its also nice to see them go so we can get back to our relaxed way of life.

September is good in Akbuk, cooler in the day (mid 30’s C) but still warm enough for those outside evening dinner parties and more room in bars & restaurants. The down side is the council and sitesi’s will  shortly stop spraying so the mossies will be back with a vengeance and there will be less choice of fresh meats in the shops, but then you can‘t have it all.
IYI BAYRAMLAR

29th September (afternoon) to 2nd October 2008 is Seker Bayram (Sugar Festival) which marks the end of the Ramazan fasting period (Ramazan Bayrami).

28-29 October is Cumhuriyet Bayram (Republic Day).

Note: Most banks, all schools and government offices will be closed.
