Whats New in Akbuk May-July 09
Pensioner Lady Mugged

On Tuesday night 12 May around 9pm a man attacked two English lady tourist, both in their 70’s, who were walking home along the coast road just past the Derby hotel.

The attacker, a well dressed young man, attempted to steal one of the ladies handbags. During the scuffle in which the brave lady fought back, she was spun around and thrown to the ground causing a dislocated shoulder, a hairline fracture to one arm, a cut head which required stitches and other cuts and bruises. The lady was taken to Soke hospital where she spent the night. Fortunately the other lady was physically unharmed but clearly both ladies would have been shaken by this callous attack.

The attacker ran away at speed with one of the ladies handbags.

The ladies were able to give a good description of the attacker to the Jandarma who seemed to be confident in making an arrest.

This is the first time we have heard of an incident like this in Akbuk, our streets are usually very safe.

We wish both Ladies a speedy recovery and hope this incident will not tarnish their love of Akbuk too much.

Update 21 May 09
In an email received from a relation today we were told the injured lady has returned home to Scotland and unfortunately is back in hospital due to suffering considerable pain, she is also still extremely shocked by what has happened.

Update 12 June 09
The lady's niece reports that her aunt is recovering well and hopefully will be visiting Akbuk again in August. She still has her arm strapped up and a neck collar on but hopefully she will be well soon. No word yet on the apprehension of the thug.

Ice Cream Rip OffsAn email received from a British holiday maker

The ice cream vendor outside Pasa tried to rip us off, he charged 14TL for 3 ice creams, when I realised I complained, he did not argue and gave me back 5TL but it was clear he was trying it on.

On another occasion he had only charged my daughter 2TL for 1 ice cream.
The vendor outside Akvaryum also tried the same thing he charged me 9TL for 2 ice creams and 4 for another.
We never did find out the correct price and decided that a Cornetto was better value for money!!!!

Valerie.

Editors Comments.
Our advice is to buy ice creams etc. from one of the many established shops in the town, you won't get ripped off and from the hygiene perspective it is probably much safer.

Rip off merchants take note - We will name & shame and report such activities to the Belediye.
Electric Bills Warning

Aydem the new supplier of electricity for Akbuk, who took over from Tedas, appear to be operating a zero tolerance policy when it comes to overdue bill payments. On our sitesi meters were read and bills issued on 04 June with last payment date 18 June, those who had not paid by that date were promptly issued with a disconnection notice to take affect on 02 July. So be warned, get those direct debits set up with your banks, there will probably be fees to pay for reconnection.

Road Tax Due This Month

Don't forget to pay the second half of your vehicle tax by the end of July or you will incur a fine.
