Sumer Cafe Attacked By Thugs
At midnight on Saturday 1st August a gang of about 8 thugs descended on the Sumer Cafe restaurant/bar and began wrecking the place.
Owner Sinan and his son were beaten as they tried to protect their property, Sinan was beaten about his head with a bottle and his son was also attacked receiving a broken nose.
There appears to be no apparent reason for this mindless attack so far.
We saw Sinan a few days after the attack and whilst sporting a black eye was in his usual good humor and cheerful demean. The restaurant/bar looked back to normal.
Don't let this put you off using this fine establishment - We will certainly give Sinan our support by visiting his venue.

Do you go to Didim to buy your pet food & supplies?
Would you like to have your items delivered to Akbuk?
We feel there is enough trade available in our town to make it worth while for a cheap supplier to deliver our pets needs to Akbuk, perhaps to a central point where we could collect our supplies without having to go all the way to Didim.

Alas only 14 votes in one month, we will speak to a supplier but we doubt there has been enough interest to influence a supplier to deliver to Akbuk on a regular basis. Many thanks to everyone who voted.

IYI BAYRAMLAR
Sunday 20th September to Tuesday 22nd September 2009 is Şeker Bayramı (Sugar Festival) which marks the end of the Ramazan 30 day fasting period (Ramazan Bayramı).
It is not unusual for children to call wishing you IYI BAYRAMLAR, the normal custom is to offer them a sweet or chocolate.
Note: Most banks, all schools and government offices will be closed.
Veterinary Clinic Now Open In Akbuk
Aybek Veterinary Clinic & pet food supply shop opened in Akbuk on Monday 19 October. The clinic is located on the main road next to The Teapot Cafe. Aybeks main clinic is in Didim.
As well as veterinary services they have a good range of reasonably priced pet foods, which should save many owners fetching their supplies from Didim.
This is a very welcome service to our town.
Carmen Needs A Home
The clinic are looking for a new home for this little lass, Carmen is 6 months old and has had all her injections. If you are interested in adopting Carmen, call at the clinic to see her.
National Republic Day
Thursday 29 October is Republic Day here in Turkey. This year marks the 86th Anniversary.
Note: Government offices, banks and schools will be closed from Wednesday noon.
All schools (primary and secondary) nationwide in Turkey will also be closed on Friday 30th for cleaning to attempt to halt the spread of swine flu.
