Here we go with Rob's 2010 restaurant review
There have been several changes of ownerships, new establishments and structural alterations since last year. It's hard going keeping up with it all but I am doing my best. In addition to the restaurants below, a number of very pleasant beachside café bars and Turkish tea gardens spring up in the summer.
The smiley rating 1 to 5
I have based this on my opinion of overall, service, food quality, comfort, cleanliness, condition of toilets and prices. Use the smiley rating as a rough guide only, it is just my opinion and we all have different preferences.

Akbuk Restaurant ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed June 2010

Now open for 2010 season, the Akbuk Restaurant has comfortable seating, toilets and kitchen are spotless, service is excellent. The food is great and they have some very tasty Turkish dishes, the chef can be little heavy handed with the pepper & spices but that's the way I like it, prices are very reasonable when you take into account the free bread & mezes. No views of the bay because they are in a side street but well worth a visit. Don't be late, they close early.
Akvaryum ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed June 2010
One of the most popular restaurant/bars in Akbuk, constantly maintaining and improving their building & decorations. Good food & drink (reasonably priced), good hygiene, very friendly and helpful staff, clean modern toilets, lots of entertainments in the summer. Akvaryum also offer free wireless internet, Sky TV and local car service. Current promotions include Monday's & Friday's English or Turkish breakfasts 5TL each.
Ali Baba ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed May 2009
This small Turkish outdoor restaurant is owned & run by the former head chef of Pizza Hatti with his wife and son. A limited menu but the very tasty food is keenly priced and all cooked by Ali himself. Fast service and a very friendly welcome, definitely worth a visit. Only one toilet which is the Ottoman style hole in the floor, but very clean.
Çamli Seafood Restaurant ☻☻ Last Reviewed July 2010
Watch out for the chips scam! We visited this restaurant just for a beer on 29 July about 4.30pm, after being served the waiter suddenly appeared with a plate of chips, we hadn't ordered them so we thought complimentary, not a chance, when I complained he tried to take another 5 Lira off me, the dearest two beers I have bought in Akbuk. It's a shame because because it is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful location and although the menu is limited the food is very good, but if they are now pulling stunts like this one it is not surprising the place was empty. Grotty toilets as well.
Celebi Turkish Kitchen ☻☻ Last Reviewed March 2010
Popular with some British ex-pats, freshly cooked food, very tasty and reasonably priced. Seats could be more comfortable. Yilmas the owner is a very nice hard working man. Free wireless internet access, same old quiz night every Friday. A bit too “cliquey” for my choice.
Covent Garden ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed April 2010
Newly opened this year this café style restaurant bar is already very popular with Brit‘s. The menu is good but not very Turkish, I tried what appeared to be their signature dish “fish & chips”, sorry Ozzy but the fish was bland, the batter was flat and although the meal was beautifully presented, I cannot for the life of me understand what brussel sprouts were doing on the plate. The complimentary mezes were very nice (not spicy). Toilets ok but no hot water. Service excellent, great staff. I think this place will do well.
Derby Hotel ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed May 2010
Lyn & Cev are the new patrons this year. The Derby is in its own class because of the lovely pool which you can use for free if you buy a meal or spend a bit on drinks. They have an extensive menu and the food is very good & well presented, prices are a amongst the highest in town though, Sunday lunch is available and very popular. There is a spacious garden with seating and a pontoon into the sea. Overall it’s a nice place with friendly management & staff. The restaurant/bar is behind the main hotel building or accessed from the coast road. No car service.
Garden Restaurant ☻☻☻☻
Last Reviewed July 2010
One of the most established and smartest restaurants in the town. Food is certainly 1st class and they have some great Turkish dishes on the menu. Smart professional staff, toilets are smart & clean. This is a very comfortable restaurant. Car service is available but not readily offered. Oh oh, received a couple of bad reports in the last 7 days, read the Guest Book on the left and decide for yourselves, I will be checking this restaurant again soon.
Garden Mehmet Restaurant ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed March 2010
Next to the Garden Restaurant and Pizza Hatti the Garden Mehmet (or Aile) is owned by the brother and former chef of the Garden. The food is top notch as is the friendly service. Smaller & less fancy than his brothers restaurant and has no toilets so you use either his brothers or the council toilets the other side, this is no bother and both toilets are well maintained. Very reasonable prices.
Harbour Bar ☻☻ Last Reviewed June 2010
The Harbour Bar which was formerly Castle Diner has undergoing a bit of a facelift and is now open under new Turkish ownership. The new patron seems quite nice but the bright green and orange plastic tables & chairs made us feel we were in the children's section at McDonald's. We had a quick look at the kitchen and toilets, we were not impressed. We did not eat there or see the menu so cannot comment on the food.
Kurfez Pizza Pansion
☻☻☻ Last Reviewed January 2010
Owned & run by the Kurfez family for many years, this very Turkish restaurant offers fresh tasty food at very reasonable prices. The toilets, which are round the back, are a bit grotty and the chairs plastic but overall a very nice restaurant with a pleasant ambience outside. Well worth a visit in the summer season.
Liberte Bar ☻☻ Last Reviewed May 2010
Situated in a great location right on the beach, the Liberte is very popular in the summer season for relaxing on the beach and drinking by the sea at night. Although well established the Liberte has all the facilities for offering restaurant food but at present its basically just snacks & chips. Sunbeds & parasols are available on the beach for 5 TL. Free wireless internet access. If only the seats were a little more comfortable!
Liman Cafe ☻☻ Last Reviewed April 2010
Locally known as Fishermen’s Bar or Harbour Bar, a meeting place for some local fishermen but anyone is welcome and the staff are friendly. Toilets are a bit basic but ok, the ladies are upstairs & gents ground floor, watch out for men using the ladies (there’s no signs), food at this time is only snacks and you can get better elsewhere but this is a lovely bar where, from the upstairs terrace, you can sit & watch the sun go down and the boats come & go in the harbour.
Mavi Deniz ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed June 2010
A new enterprise opened this year by patrons Denis & Dawn. Extensively refurbished, very clean & smart. Good service with a family atmosphere. The food is certainly recommended and the prices are very reasonable, fish & chips is one of their best sellers, it is excellent and only 8TL, one diner likened the size of the fish to a whale. Their Sunday lunches are another popular favourite. Toilets & kitchen are new and spotless. Free internet, pick up service and "wii game" (whatever that is).
My Way ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed July 2010
The only place in Akbuk where you can get a good Indian curry and I think it's every bit as good as your UK Kohinoor, the onion bargees are amongst the best I have tasted and they have proper Basmati rice, the naan bread is not the real McCoy and is not as good but in fairness it would require a proper Tandoori oven. I sampled two curry's, Chicken Balti and Tikka Masala, excellent. It is a bit pricey though, the full works could cost you 30 TL per person. My Way also offer some very nice reasonably priced Turkish cuisine. Ladies watch out for the toilets and close the outer door behind you or it could be a little public, I think some improvements in that department would be good. In addition My Way have free wireless internet, music & karaoke nights.
Olivia Restaurant ☻☻☻☻ ☻ Last Reviewed July 2010
Brand new restaurant just opened. The menu is extensive and expanding, food is superb, service great, kitchen & toilets new and very clean (mind your head on the doorway if you are tall). The Olivia is a very smart restaurant tastefully furnished right down to the crockery & cutlery. The huge stone fireplace in the centre of the room is a great feature and gives off quite a bit of heat when lit. Nargile pipes also available (try the strawberry flavour it's lovely). Free sunbeds, free wireless internet access and local car service. This is a lovely restaurant in a pleasant location, well worth a visit and now they offer English breakfast at 7.50 TL which includes as much tea & coffee as you want, I haven't tried the breakfast personally but the free tea & coffee make it the best breakfast deal in town.
Paşa ☻☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed May 2010
Improved this year to provide inside toilets and a new kitchen, this very attractive bar with additional outside seating is right next to the bay. The food is first rate and includes Turkish & English cuisine, fresh local fish, steaks, curries and more. Sunday lunch at Paşa is highly recommended. Very tasty snacks are also available at cheap prices. Patrons Serdar & Donna also offer free wireless internet access and local car service. If you like an after dinner smoke Paşa's now offer a selection of fine cigars. The only bar/restaurant in Akbuk I know with a clock on the wall, of sorts, check it out and see if you can read it (it does keep good time).
Pizza Hatti ☻☻☻☻ Last Reviewed July 2010
Owner & patron Turan Ozuag has completely rebuilt his restaurant and kitchens next to the old site this year. Pizza Hatti is a well established restaurant in the town which has always been one of the most popular eateries in Akbuk because they offer great food and an extensive menu at very reasonable prices. The new undercover outside dining area is pretty much the same as before, so a very familiar ambience for Pizza Hatti lovers. Toilets still not up to scratch.
Shari's at No. 4 ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed June 2010
This new Italian restaurant opened 24 May. There doesn't appear to be much of an Italian ambience but there are lots of pasta and Italian dishes and the prices are average. The location could be better as it is situated on the main road in the very centre of town next to the Akguller supermarket.
Sümer Cafe ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed April 2010
A very warm & friendly welcome awaits from patron Sinan and his wife Birdal. The food is always very tasty and well presented, comfortable seating and surroundings. Toilets somewhat of a let down and can get a bit smelly as they are underground and there are usually a couple of scruffy dogs mooching around the place. Sinan will look after you with car service.
Zara Café Patisserie Bar ☻☻☻ Last Reviewed April 2010
A new business opened beginning of April by Cyd and her partner Mustafa. Their enticing menu includes popular favourite's such as jacket potatoes from a proper spud machine, pasties, homemade pies, quiche and more. Continental coffees, beer, wines and spirits. Zara's is located on the main road next to the Belediyesi.
