Day 4

Today we move on to Cappadocia. We decided to travel East via KAREPİNAR to visit the Sultan II. Selim Külliyesi and then onto the Meke Gölü (see pic) a volcanic lake. We also decided to visit some Ponors but we failed to find them.

Form here we move onto İVRİZ to visit some Hittite rock carvings. We followed the signs until we came to a mountain and then followed the sign that seemed to lead us up into the hills (on foot of course), we climbed and scrambled around for some 35 minutes until we all but gave up then, below us, where the car was parked, we saw a courting couple make their way along the footpath by the car to some rocks and turn back, yes, you guessed it, the carvings were 50m from the car on the flat!! So down we tumble to find the most magnificent rock carvıngs thousands of years old.

It was then onto GOREME via the ESKİ GÜMÜS. This name intrigued us and we had to visit. Well we were glad we did carved ınto a rock face was and old monastery with rooms and alters deep in the ground as well as the bones of St. Mathew so we were told by the guide. The whole rock face is some 500m long and goes into the rock as well as going down 12m.

Then onto GOREME.
